Westminster will be going to the Maker Faire in Decatur on Saturday October 1, 2016. The Maker Faire is a gathering of inquisitive people who who love learning and sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue to for these “makers” to show all types of different projects. They call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth! This year, Westminster will be hosting the family projects, with around 100-150 participants, and we are currently hashing out the details for which project our makers will complete.
Our idea: the Bristle Bot! It is a miniature robot made out of a toothbrush, watch battery, and pager motor. This week we made a prototype and determined which supplies we will need to order for the event! Our motor was a little bit too big and it kept tipping over, so we ordered a smaller motor to hopefully be more balanced. Also, we found a video of someone who created the Bristle Bot with an LED light, so next week we will undergo a second round of prototyping.
We plan on hosting it “Olympics” style, so we are going to figure out a way to get the little bots to compete!
